PATGOD 40th Anniversay CD release!

What wonderful news to hear that EMI is doing this bit of music justice and releasing a 3 disc 40th anniversary edition (stereo / mono / singles, etc...). I can't wait to get my hands on this. There will be a 2 disc version as well; just be sure what you're buying. Please show your support for this kind of music and attention given to the release by buying it. It might quite possibly get EMI to do more... like a SOS 40th anniversary edition as well.

This is something I've been waiting for; I pre-ordered this the day it became available.

I've also have the 30th Anniversary Mono release of PATGOD. I hear that the Mono release of the 40th is the original mix and not reprocessed. I've never heard the original mix; are the differences between the 30th and 40th Anniversary releases subtle or significant?

We won't know about the 40th for certain until we can hear it. But the 30th was botched in a couple of ways.

For one thing, they re-EQ'd it to make it sound "modern." (The same happened with the 80s reissues of the Velvet Underground.) It's disrespectful to say the least. I mean, would they do that to "Sketches Of Spain?"

It's massively compressed, to the point where everything is loud, even the soft parts. If you could see the wavform, everything would be flatlined at the top. This is unnatural. It's all too common in modern recordings, but there is no need for that here.

Also they chopped off the end of "Flaming."

I'm told all of this will be rectified. Let's hope so.
