PERFORMERS WANTED FOR CHARITY CONCERT

Read this below. I work with African charities and use the name "Robin". When you contact this woman refer to me as "Robin". Those interested in participating contact this woman:

I hope that this message finds you well. I am searching for any type of suggestions possible in regards to how ASAP Africa can reach out to performers and coordinate a charity benefit. We have been meeting with the Amphitheater in Peachtree City, GA to develop an awesome concert for October of 2008. It has been a little overwhelming when cost of performers is discussed. I was hoping that you could provide me with the best way to reach out to performers and get them to donate their time for a good cause. We are in the beginning stage so any information at this time would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your continued support and all of your unwavering efforts to promote the good of African nonprofits.

Sincerely,

Shannon Dunn

Isn't It Good?

"I think it's good if a song has more than one meaning. Maybe that kind of song can reach far more people."

Isn't it bad! So quiet there, in the wood"

The Pace of Things

"It's always been too slow for me. Playing. The pace of things. I'm a fast sprinter. The trouble was, after playing in the group for a few months, I couldn't reach that point."

The Thing About Syd: BBC Radio 2 14th July

A date for the diaries - BBC Radio 2, looking back four decades, are holding a 60s season. Amongst the documentaries being aired will be "The Thing About Syd", almost a year to the day since his passing, and includes the thoughts of his friends and colleagues.

The programme features interviews with members of Pink Floyd, manager Peter Jenner, Phil Alexander editor of Mojo, Allan Jones editor of Uncut and others.

The documentary explores the life, music, influence and legacy of one of the lost souls of British rock music.

The BBC note that it covers "the early beginnings of Pink Floyd and Barrett’s contribution to their pioneering brand of psychedelic pop, to the consequences of his exploration of drugs that set Barrett on a tragic path away from the band to a solo career, and eventually, life as a virtual recluse".

The programme includes an exploration of Barrett’s passing and the fulsome tributes in the media with comments from editors and journalists about what made Barrett so special.
"The Thing About Syd" airs on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday, July 14th at 8pm (BST; GMT+1hr). BBC Radio can be heard in a number of ways: in the UK on traditional and DAB radios, Freeview, digital satellite and cable services, and worldwide via www.bbc.co.uk, which has a live stream and the facility to "Listen Again" for a period of seven days following broadcast.

Pink Floyd - Sam Riddle/Boss City TV

pink floyd music, pink floyd documents, pink floyd archive, pink floyd 1967
Here is another really cool scan; a lost Syd/Floyd TV appearance. The Sam Riddle/Boss City TV show from November 11, 1967. I think this was a local Los Angeles area TV show.

Love Poem

This poem was written and illustrated by Syd Barrett for his girlfriend in 1965.

The sketch depicts his girlfriend dancing at a performance by David Gilmour's pre-Pink Floyd band, Jokers Wild, and shows his initials (RKB) in ther corner.

The subject of the poem explains:

"This poem was written for me by Syd Barrett in 1965. I was his girlfriend at this time (my nickname was Twig) and this lovely little poem describes how he felt about me with perfect observations about behaviour, clothes and colours...

"The drawing on the left of the poem shows me dancing and waving my arms in the air... the band playing in the background is ‘Jokers Wild’. This is the band that Dave Gilmour was playing at that time... at the bottom left of the drawing are Syd’s initials RKB." - VB.

Here's what the poem says, approximately (thanks Adrian):

Little Twig isn't big
To you, but she is
To me.
But however I don't like it
When she makes faces.
And she seldom talks
When we go to places
And meet people
And sit around.
But she prances at dances
Gets crushes, takes chances
With boys, wears a hat
No shoes, and they flatter her
Madly. What of that?
Neat, maroon, blue and white
Lace and chord, velvet. Might
Even keep her coat on if it's right.
Next week
All change
To purple
Or black
Perhaps.
