Check out this Pink Floyd 1970 concert poster that also has a little known group called Blue Mountain Eagle on it. It promotes a 5/9/70 gig at the Terrace Ballroom in Salt Lake City, Utah. There was only one printing from a pre-concert print run of five hundred. It measures 25 3/4" x 18 1/4" with deep purplish blue and red on thick white index stock - Intricate, fine line (engraving like pen technique) illustration of Conan the Barbarian battle scene in large oval at center of poster, surrounded by rope like lettering, small Mickey type mouse character at top edge of poster. Great artwork and design by Rob Brown.
It seems that Blue Mountain Eagle was formed as a spinoff group from the New Buffalo Springfield which itself was a spinoff group formed in September 1968 by Dewey Martin, the drummer in the original Buffalo Springfield. Guitarist/vocalist, Dave Price, had previously played with George Kinney's pre-Golden Dawn group, The Chelsea, in Austin in the mid sixties. He was also Davey Jones' stand in for the Monkees sitcom series.
The group began calling themselves Blue Buffalo in 1969 and then Blue Mountain Eagle after sacking Dewey Martin. They were personally signed to Atlantic/Atco Records by label founder Ahmet Ertegun. The group toured extensively, opening for Santana, Jimi Hendrix, Love, Pink Floyd and many others. The group's sole album only sold a few gthousand copies and they disbanded in September 1970.
