Syd Barrett Blog Denounces Roger Waters

Roger Waters
Roger Waters
Over the last year (or so) former Pink Floyd Front-man, Roger Waters, has been in the press for his outspoken views on the State of Israel, the Jewish People & the Judaism Religion. Basically, he's been running his mouth a lot and doing shenanigans like putting a Star of David on a pig's ass at his concerts. Like... He's just so *clever*; a Star of David on a pig's ass.

His latest stunt is to compare the State of Israel with the Nazi Party. Whether you *agree* with Israel or not, this is repugnant and is something that should be reserved for the Ku Klux Klan or Holocaust deniers like that asshole; the former President of Iran. No, I don't know that asshole's name. Why should I?

The Syd Barrett Pink Floyd Blog would like to go on record that we denounce Roger Waters for his outspoken stance on Israel. One can disagree about this without the histrionics of putting the Star of David on a pig's ass or comparing Israel with the Nazi Party. It's wholly irresponsible and we wish that Roger would just shut his mouth and play bass; at least on this topic.

hmm ... imho, Waters does go a bit overboard on his ant-Jewish state stance. That said, a lot of what he has to say is true:
- Israel has become a highly militarized arm of the American military industrial complex
- Israel has broken international laws/treaties by moving into lands that were not of theirs in the original accords
- the killing of inordinately high amounts of innocent civilians (aka 'collateral' damage) must stop. It does not help Israel's cause.
- Israel needs to conclude it's occupation of the Palestinian people.

Obviously, these are all overly simplified statements. However, Israel and their hawkish PM's have subjected the Palestinians to some very serious war crimes as defined by the accords of the Geneva conventions to which they are a signatory, same as the USA, regardless of how 'quaint' certain administrations consider these protections granted to civilians.

Anyway - just as everything in this conflict, there are no clear 'good guys' but rather seems to be plenty of 'bad' players.

Roger Waters has a platform on which to sound his beliefs in the hopes of achieving some amount of change to what is a horrible situation. I say good for him for using the bully pulpit to drive home some cogent points ... along the way some less cogent points were made, but I support his right to make his views known.

I say hats off to the SB blog for speaking their mind here. RW should go back to what he does best...oh yeah, he is doing that being a foot in the mouth ex front man for PF. I just listened to the new album once again w/out RW and it was awesome just as the tour was in 94 era. Floyd is better w/out RW and especially now with his racist comments.
